Travel Permit In Bhutan

DOCUMENTS TO CARRY WHILE VISITING BHUTAN
All the travelers are requested to carry the documents as mentioned below. It is mandatory that your passport should have at least 2-3
empty pages to stamp.
Indian Nationals:
– All Indian Nationals visiting Bhutan MUST carry original VALID PASSPORT with minimum 6 months valid or original VOTER ID card.
– Original birth certificates for infants
– Valid passport with minimum 6 months validity while travelling from third country including child and infant
– Visa is not required
Bangladeshi Nationals:
– Original VLAID PASSPORT with minimum 6 months validity is required
– Visa will be issued on arrival at Paro International Airport
Other Nationals:
– Original VALID PASSPORT with minimum 6 months validity is required
– Printed copy of Visa Clearance Letter issued by Department of Immigration of Bhutan
BHUTAN PERMIT FOR INDIAN NATIONALS
All Indian Nationals visiting Bhutan DO NOT require visa to enter Bhutan however they need permit as mentioned below;
Paro International Airport –
– On arrival at Paro International Airport, your passport will be stamped which is valid to visit Thimphu and Paro only and it will be given
for 7 days. If your travel duration is more than 7 days, it should be renewed from Immigration Office in Thimphu.
– You will need special permit to visit Punakha and further which can be obtained from Immigration Office in Thimphu on working days.
The office remains closed on weekends and government holidays. We request you to kindly check with us for the same.
– For the special permit, you will need to fill up the form which is available at Immigration Office and attach the copy of the front page of
the passport along with the stamp you have got from the airport.
– It takes almost half day to receive the permit. Please check the expiry date of the special permit to avoid unnecessary issues.
Phuentsholing –
– On arrival at Phuentsholing, you will need to process the permit which allows you to visit Thimphu and Paro only which is valid for 7
days. If your travel duration is more than 7 days, the permit should be renewed from Immigration Office in Thimphu.
– To get the permit, you need to fill up the form available at the Immigration Office along with the copy of your passport/voter id, hotel

– For the special permit, you will need to fill up the form which is available at Immigration Office and attach the copy of the front page of
the passport along with the stamp you have got from the airport.

THERE IS OPTION OF GETTING ADVANCED ONLINE PERMIT WHEREBY YOU CAN ENTER BHUTAN ION WEEKENDS OR GOVERNMENT
HOLIDAYS AS WELL BUT YOU NEED TO TAKE GUIDED PACKAGE. THE PACKAGE REQUIRES YOU TO HAVE VALID PASSPORT,
BHUTANESE GUIDE, BHUTANESE VEHICLE AND 3 STAR HOTEL REGISTERED WITH TOURISM COUNCIL OF BHUTAN
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FEES (SDF)
SDF is a fee levied by the Royal Government of Bhutan to all tourists visiting Bhutan. This is levied to promote sustainable and
responsible tourists under the overall principle of “High Value, Low Volume” tourists. SDF contributes to social welfare, development
activities, conservation of the environment, promotion of culture, and enhancement of infrastructure and facilities for tourists.
Indian Nationals visiting Bhutan needs to pay certain amount as SDF as mentioned below;
Adult – INR 1200/person/night
Children – 5-12 Years: INR 600/child/night
Children – 5 Years & below – Free of cost
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FEES (SDF) for International Tourist
Adult: USD 200/person/night
6 years- 12 years: 50% of the adult SDF
5 years & below: Not applicable
USD 40/- Visa Fees per person for one time is applicable for all International tourist
The SDF will directly go to the governement. On addition to the SDF, tourist needs to pay for accomodation, meals, entrance fees, guide,
transport service and all other service that one wish to take.
